Mode is operated by NishLabs ("Mode", "we", "us", "our"). We operate the Mode mobile application and website at themode.app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
Account information: When you sign up, we collect your email address and display name. Authentication is handled via magic link (passwordless email login).
Goal and activity data: Goals you create, progress updates you log, streak data, and competition results. This data is core to the Service.
Device information: If you enable push notifications, we store your device push token to deliver notifications. We collect basic device type and platform (iOS, Android, web) for functionality purposes.
Contacts (optional): If you choose to invite friends from your phone's address book, the app reads your contacts on your device so you can search them by name. Only the contacts you explicitly select are sent to us — their name, the phone number you chose, and any email address on their card — and only to deliver that invitation. We do not upload or store your address book.
Subscription information: Payment processing is handled by RevenueCat and the respective app stores (Apple App Store, Google Play) or Stripe (web). We do not store credit card numbers. We receive subscription status, plan type, and transaction identifiers.

You can control which notifications you receive (rival progress, inactivity reminders, streak alerts, deadline warnings) in the Profile settings screen. Each type has separate push and email toggles.
Invitation text messages (SMS): When a Mode user invites you to a goal from their contacts, Mode sends you a single text message on their behalf. It identifies the person who invited you and Mode, contains a link to join, and is sent once per invitation — we do not send recurring or marketing texts. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to opt out of all future texts from Mode, or HELP for help; you can also email us. We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Full details of the text-message program are at themode.app/sms.
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), secure authentication (Supabase Auth), and access controls. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your data.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
